  • Foamex Boards vs. Other Signage Materials: Making an Informed Choice

Signboards have become an integral part of our lives, serving multiple purposes from advertising and event promotion to providing safety information. The choice of a suitable material is essential for the longevity and durability of the signage, especially when it comes to withstanding various weather conditions. Foamex boards have gained popularity for several reasons, including their lightweight nature. It is the most preferred signage material because its fine cell structure and various colour choices make it perfect for professional digital printing. It comes in 10 different thicknesses from 1mm to 19mm. However, 3mm,5mm and 10mm are popular choices for signage printing.

Popular Foamex Sheet Thickness
  1. 3 mm: Indoor signage, banners (less Stiff)
  2. 5 mm: Indoor sign boards (moderate Stiff)
  3. 10 mm: Outdoor boards that have to sustain climatic variations.

Foamex signs can be displayed both indoors and outdoors, making them ideal for marketing a new product or service, advertising an event, or informing your consumers. However, it’s important to consider and compare various factors with other materials to make an informed choice. Let’s explore Foamex boards and compare them to some other commonly used signage materials.

Foamex Boards

  • Foamex boards are made from PVC (polyvinyl chloride) foam, which gives them a lightweight and rigid structure.
  • They are versatile and can be easily cut, shaped, and printed on, making them suitable for a wide range of indoor and outdoor signage applications.
  • Foamex boards are durable, weather-resistant, and can withstand exposure to UV radiation without fading or deteriorating.
  • They offer good insulation properties and are resistant to moisture, making them suitable for both indoor and outdoor use.
  • Foamex boards are relatively cost-effective compared to some other signage materials

Other Signage Board Materials

1. Corrugated Plastic

  • Corrugated plastic, or Correx or Coroplast, is a lightweight, rigid, and durable material.
  • It is often used for temporary or short-term signage, such as event signage or yard signs.
  • Corrugated plastic is waterproof, weather-resistant, and affordable.
  • However, it may not offer the same level of durability and longevity as Foamex boards.

2. Aluminum Composite Material (ACM)

  • ACM is a sandwich panel of two thin aluminium sheets bonded to a plastic core.
  • It is known for its durability, strength, and rigidity.
  • ACM is commonly used for long-term outdoor signage, building facades, and architectural applications.
  • It provides excellent weather resistance and can withstand harsh environmental conditions.
  • ACM tends to be more expensive than Foamex boards and may require professional installation.

3. Acrylic

  • Acrylic, also known as Plexiglas or PMMA, is a transparent or translucent material commonly used for high-quality indoor signage.
  • It offers a sleek, professional appearance and can be laser-cut and engraved.
  • Acrylic signage is durable, UV-resistant, and retains its clarity over time.
  • However, acrylic is more brittle than Foamex boards and may be prone to cracking or shattering.

4. Dibond

  • Dibond is another type of sandwich panel consisting of two thin aluminium sheets bonded to a solid plastic core.
  • It provides excellent rigidity, durability, and weather resistance.
  • Dibond is commonly used for outdoor signage, architectural projects, and displays.
  • It offers a premium look and is often more expensive than Foamex boards.

When it comes to signage materials, Foamex boards offer a range of advantages that make them a popular choice for various applications. Their lightweight nature, durability, and versatility make them suitable for both indoor and outdoor signage needs. Foamex boards are cost-effective, easy to handle, and can be customised to meet specific requirements. While other signage materials like Wood, aluminium composite, corrugated plastic and acrylic have their own merits, Foamex boards stand out for their combination of affordability, durability, and ease of use. However, it is essential to consider the specific requirements of your signage project and consult with signage professionals to ensure you make the most informed choice based on your needs and budget.
